Crofter's Walks & Talks

Come with us for a day of exhilarating & structured waks on the Cape Wrath peninsula.  We will help you explore the area on foot by providing a friendly, experienced "walk buddy" and linking mini bus rides between pre-set walks.

The day begins in the same way as a standard trip with the ferry crossing over the Kyle of Durness, boarding one of our buses and travelling the road to Cape Wrath.  However our "walks & talks" bus stops along the way for 2 accompanied walks "off the beaten track".

Walk 1. Daal to Store Hut

This walk takes you to the "store hut" along the route that supplies were initially taken from sea cargo on their way to the lighthouse. 

On the way back from the "store hut" there is a visit to a peat bank, where there will be a peat cutting demonstration - peat used to be the only source of heat in a Highland home and was therefore needed for warmth, cooking and heating water.

After this it is back to the mini bus and on to Cape Wrath Lighthouse.

Cape Wrath

 As well as absorbing the breathtaking views at the most noth westerly point of mainland Scotland it is the stop for lunch.  The Ozone Cafe has a selection of options if you haven't prepared a pack lunch yourself. 

Walk 2. Kerwick Bay

The bus now starts the return journey stopping at Kerwick road end. 

This walk takes you down a track to a haven on the edge;  Kerwick Bay is tucked in below the wild moorland and open to the North Atlantic Ocean.  Her famous sea stacks and immaculate white sands make a true paradise for any budding photographer, giving an un paralled panorama from the true Scottish Highlands.  There is the opportunity to see and look around the former farmstead which is now a mountain bothy.

The finale is a short, steep return up the track to the mini bus.
